(Bio-)Fuel mandating and the green paradox

چکیده
The theory on the green paradox has focused primarily consumption of a clean substitute produced using static technology. In reality, we observe gradual accumulation substitute’s capacity, suggesting that supply decisions for and finite carbon resource should both be treated as dynamic. This paper shows when climate policy is preannounced, with simultaneous substitute, myopia in latter leads to paradox. When producers can accumulate capacity are forward looking, may or not arise, however. this setting, its occurrence depends size discount rate remaining stock resource. These other drivers investigated multi-producer game-theoretic model calibrated real-world global oil market data. timing mandating shown single most important variable mitigating Moreover, EU-2020 US-2022 style biofuel targets, rather robust 0.3% decline production observed during premandate phase, concerns over seriously overstated.

The Productivity Paradox in Green Buildings
In this paper we challenge the notion that “green” buildings can achieve greater productivity than buildings that are not accredited as “green”. For nearly two decades, research has produced apparent evidence which indicates that the design of a “green” building can enhance the productivity of its occupants. This relationship between building design and productivity is claimed to be achieved th...
متن کاملClimate Policy to Defeat the Green Paradox
Carbon dioxide emissions have accelerated since the signing of the Kyoto Protocol. This discouraging development may partly be blamed on accelerating world growth and on lags in policy instruments. However, it also raises serious question concerning whether policies to reduce CO2 emissions are as effective as generally assumed. In recent years, a considerable number of studies have identified v...
متن کاملGasoline Prices, Fuel Economy, and the Energy Paradox
It is often asserted that consumers undervalue future gasoline costs relative to purchase prices when they choose between automobiles, or equivalently that they have high implied discount rates for these future energy costs. We test this by examining how time series variation in gasoline prices a¤ects the relative prices of vehicles with di¤erent fuel economy ratings, using a detailed dataset...
متن کاملThe bio refinery; producing feed and fuel from grain.
It is both possible and practicable to produce feed and fuel from grain. Using the value of grain to produce renewable energy for transport, while using the remaining protein content of the grain as a valuable protein source for livestock and for fish, can be seen as a complimentary and optimal use of all the grain constituents. Consideration must be given to maximise the value of the yeast com...
متن کاملCarbon leakage, the green paradox and perfect future markets
Policies of lowering carbon demand may aggravate rather than alleviate climate change (green paradox). In a two-period three-country general equilibrium model with finite endowment of fossil fuel one country enforces an emissions cap in the first or second period. When that cap is tightened the extent of carbon leakage depends on the interaction of various parameters and elasticities. Condition...
